Turkish baths, spas and other relax activities in Málaga

If you like to enjoy some relax time on your holidays or you just want to get out of routine for some time, you are lucky to be around Malaga and the Costa del Sol as they are well provided of spas, Turkish baths, thermal circuits and many other activities to help your body and mind have a good rest. There are many options, for every time of the year, for the well off and for those not so, for urbanites, and for nature lovers, for groups of friends and for couples…

We have prepared a great selection of plans and places to relax so you can celebrate properly the World Relaxation Day.

Spas and thermal baths in the countryside

To find spas with waters coming directly from a thermal spring you have to drive well inside Málaga province. The first place to go is the small village of Carratraca just a few kilometres from the famous Caminito del Rey. We can find there the Hotel Villa Padierna Termas, a five stars accommodation with mineral medicinal waters, a broad selection of health and beauty treatments and great landscapes.

In the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park you can find the Balneario de Tolox, (Tolox’s spa), built in 1870 and completely renovated in 2012. It is well known because of its therapies based on water vapour inhalations, very helpful for various respiratory ailments. Its location provides a relax and comfortable stay just some kilometres off Malaga city.

If you don’t mind driving some kilometres more the neighbouring province of Granada have the Balneario de Alhama de Granada and the Balneario de Lanjarón both in the area of the beautiful Alpujarra with many options to enjoy and relax with the thermal circuits.

The best spas in the Costa del Sol

The easiest relax plan is to enjoy one of the many options offered in the Costa del Sol. But they are so many is not difficult to feel lost, and sometimes one must be careful with discounts and promotions offered because in the end they are not as good as they seem.

Here you have a short selection by town so you can choose the one closer to your accommodation place:

  • In Estepona: Gran Hotel Elba Estepona. This 5-stars hotel is perfect for a relax day. Its Thalasso Spa is famous in all the country. Treatments offered are based in sea water healthy properties and the use of marine muds.
  • In Marbella: Gran Hotel Benahavís. It offers a spa with 6 cabins for wet and dry treatments, manicures, pedicures, Roman baths, Finnish sauna, beauty therapies, etc.
  • In Fuengirola: Hotel Florida Spa. They are specialized in hydrotherapies, vapor baths, sauna, jacuzzi, etc. They say you’ll feel a new person, revitalised and ready to meet the world again.
  • In Benalmadena: Hotels Holiday World. If you are thinking about spending a bit less but without losing quality you can go to any of the 4 hotels this chain has in Benalmadena. Every one of them offers specific treatments with a special ambient so you better have a look at their webpage and choose the one you like more.

Turkish baths in Malaga

Malaga, a city with a long Moorish tradition, has today on offer some fantastic places where you can enjoy the long tradition of public baths of Roman origin and revitalised by the Turkish Hammams.

The most famous of these ‘Arab/Turkish baht houses’ is the Hammam Al Ándalus, located in the centre of the city of Malaga.  Other good options are Hamman Almanzor in Mijas or the Hammam Spa, also in the centre of Malaga city.

Low cost plans to relax for you -and your wallet

If you are not for a splurge, do not worry because there some very good options to relax without spending a penny. Here are some ideas:

You can practice yoga, Pilates and meditation on the beach. All along the coast, in summer but also in winter, is not uncommon to find people practicing these activities. Some of them are paid sessions but many are just fans who meet there through social media groups to exercise together.

In summer you can enjoy rivers, small lagoons and other natural water spots where to have a nice bath and relax. Some of the most famous are the angosturas of Guadalmina river in Benahavis or the Pozas of Istán.

We need to highlight here the famous Baños de la Hedionda in Casares, a natural spring of water rich in sulphur with healing properties in use since Roman times.

If you are looking for a plan for winter the best options are some trekking routes around the beautiful landscapes of Sierra de Grazalema, Sierra de las Nieves or the Montes de Málaga. Perfect places to enjoy direct contact with nature and relax.

But if we are talking about the Costa del Sol, the best option to relax is to enjoy one of the wonderful beaches available. The less crowded ones may be the best option, we can recommend the beach in the mouth of the Guadalhorce river in Malaga, the Cala de Maro in Nerja or the dunes of Artola in Marbella.

So, you now have a lot of ideas to relax. Go for them, you know you’ll like it. If you want to know more about plans to enjoy in the Costa del Sol read our posts about restaurants with free tapas, museums in Málaga, plans with your elders, etc.
