Restaurants in Málaga with free tapas

Do you feel like enjoying some cheap tapas in Málaga? Did you know that in some restaurants in the city you can get free tapas in Málaga with your drink? Now is the perfect time to take advantage of this! On World Tapas Day, we show you the best places in Málaga where you can enjoy a tapa without any additional cost when ordering your drink.

As the saying goes, "eating and scratching, everything is about starting." And indeed, Málaga's gastronomy has much to offer. The tradition of tapas, typical of Andalusia, is one of the best ways to try a variety of regional flavors. At Espacar, we believe you shouldn't miss out on this experience, so we've prepared a guide with the best bars and restaurants in Málaga that offer free tapas with your beer or drink.

Although in many places on the Costa del Sol the custom of tapas with drinks is not common, several Málaga restaurants have adopted this tradition that originated in Granada and other nearby Andalusian cities, turning it into a great way to promote local specialties and offer cheap tapas in Málaga.

The origins of tapas date back to the 13th century when Alfonso X "The Wise" ordered that something be served with wine to avoid alcohol clouding the mind. Additionally, the tapa served to cover the glass and prevent flying insects from getting into the drink, hence the name "tapa."

Keep in mind that having a car rental at Málaga María Zambrano will make your route easier.

Tapear cheap in the West Zone of Málaga (Carretera de Cádiz)

However, not all of these restaurants for tapas are concentrated in Málaga's center.

For example, we find several of them in the west of the city. In the Las Pirámides neighborhood, we come across two cult places, each with over ten years of experience, located next to each other. The first is Tapería Esencia, where in addition to a free tapa with your drink, you can enjoy traditional food with a fusion twist at affordable prices.

Next door, its neighbor, Cervecería La Granaina, offers an endless catalog of tapas with drinks, including delicious surprises like 'pescaito' frito, scrambled eggs, Russian salad, and fun montaditos. We also recommend trying their tapas from the menu, starting at just €1.20, and their famous patatas bravas. Their success led them to open another restaurant next to Huelin Park. Finally, in the El Torcal neighborhood, we can’t miss two spots like El Aserradero or El Tapeo del Colilla. Note that the latter is closed on Sundays.

Here’s the location of these places for tapear in Málaga:

- Tapería Esencia: Av. Molière, 15, 29004 Málaga.
