Mystery route in Malaga centre

You may well know by now about the beauty of many streets and corners of Malaga historic centre, but there are also some scary stories to tell. The most famous is the one related to the Poltergeist in Císter street. It’s the only official police case in Spain closed with paranormal activities as explanation. In 1991, some of the houses were being reformed and workers complained of strange presences and unexplained movement of objects that also were registered by the police…

In the same guise as this one, there are numerous stories in different old streets of the city and in monuments as the Alcazaba or the Roman Theatre. If you feel like going deeper into this, there are several travel agencies and personal guides that offer mystery routes in different areas of the province. Just one advice: book well in advance, Halloween is high season for them.

Nearly all restaurants and bars in the city centre use to decorate their premises with Halloween motifs and organise special events and parties. San Miguel Cementery

Located in the upper part of Malaga centre, in Fuente Olletas district, its origins go back several centuries but the mystery story that has made it famous comes from the mid-eighties. The legend says that after 6pm a spirit with the resemblance of writer Jane Bowles -whose remains are buried here- can be seen around the place.

But colourful legends apart, the place really deserves a visit thanks to its atmosphere, the beauty of some vaults and the historic heritage it has.
