Benalmádena Butterfly Park: a Family Day Out

Benalmádena Butterfly Park: a Family Day Out

Spending your holidays in the province of Malaga or planning a family trip? We suggest a fun and educational day out: the Benalmádena Butterfly Park (Mariposario de Benalmádena), a journey among butterflies just 20 minutes from Malaga. In this article from Espacar, your car hire in Malaga, we tell you everything you need to know.

What will you see at the Benalmádena Butterfly Park?

Imagine walking among more than 1,500 exotic butterflies from all over the world, flying freely between waterfalls and flowers. Around 150 different species live in the garden, and many breed there, so you can see every stage of the life cycle: eggs, caterpillars and chrysalises. New butterflies hatch every day, and with luck you will see one unfold its wings.

Plants play a key role too: each species needs a specific plant to develop, so the garden is full of tropical plants from around the world.

Other animals in the butterfly park

Besides butterflies, there is a small stream, a pond with fish, Tammar wallabies, yellow-footed tortoises and colourful Gouldian finches. Information panels make the visit educational for the whole family.

A unique experience

Entering the butterfly park feels like stepping into a tropical garden. Close the door quickly so no butterflies escape! The space is not very large, so take your time, walk slowly and stop whenever a butterfly comes close. If you move gently, one may even land on your shoulder. Remember not to touch them.
